Motorcycle and powersport keys get overlooked by most locksmiths and are frequently quoted at dealer prices with a wait for a part. Many of these machines use high-security or internal-cut keyways and immobiliser chips that need the same equipment as a car, and we carry it.
Typical range: $120–$450 CAD. Ranges are typical for the GTA and depend on the door, the hardware and the time of day. We confirm the price before dispatching.

High-security keyways
A lot of motorcycles use internal-cut or track keys rather than conventional edge-cut blades — Honda, Yamaha, BMW and others all use profiles that a standard key machine cannot produce.
These need a machine capable of internal cutting, which most locksmiths do not carry and most hardware stores certainly do not. It is a large part of why riders get sent to the dealer by default.
Immobiliser systems on bikes
Modern motorcycles increasingly carry immobilisers, and the principle is identical to a car: a chip in the key must authenticate before the engine will run. Programming requires equipment and access to the machine's system.
Some makes also use a coded ignition where the fuel cap and seat lock are keyed to the same key, so a replacement needs to work all three rather than just the ignition.
All keys lost on a bike
With no key, the route is either code from the VIN through authorised channels or decoding the ignition lock directly. Motorcycle ignition locks are often more awkward to access than a car's, sitting in a tight position on the top yoke, but they are decodable.
The alternative offered by most dealers is replacing the entire lock set — ignition, fuel cap and seat lock as a matched unit with new keys, which is expensive and usually unnecessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a locksmith make a motorcycle key?
A specialist can, and we do. It takes a machine capable of cutting internal-track keyways, which many motorcycle manufacturers use and which most locksmiths do not carry, plus programming equipment for immobiliser-equipped bikes. That combination is why riders are so often sent to the dealer by default.
I lost the only key to my motorcycle. What are my options?
We originate one, either from code through the VIN or by decoding the ignition lock directly, then program to the immobiliser if the bike has one. The dealer alternative is usually replacing the complete lock set as a matched unit, which is considerably more expensive and generally unnecessary.
Do motorcycle keys have chips?
Increasingly, yes. Immobilisers are common on modern motorcycles and work exactly as they do in cars — the chip must authenticate before the engine will run. Some makes also key the fuel cap and seat lock to the same key, so a proper replacement operates all three.
Can you make keys for an ATV or snowmobile?
Yes. Powersport machines are within our normal scope, including ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles and personal watercraft. Many use simpler keyways than motorcycles, so these are often quick and inexpensive jobs.
